Wow, I warned in my first blog post that it would be a while until the second post. I really didn’t expect that it would take me 6 months to do so.

However, today is a big day. Today is the day that the new Fabutan website launches, which is the first major project from my new company 3.9 Marketing (website coming soon). This was a massive project for me to undertake, and frankly we were hoping for an earlier launch of the site, but there was a ton of work put into the strategy and guts of the system. Fabutan is a very interesting company, as they are a growing, national brand but a franchise operation run by a relatively small team in Calgary. They are a phenomenal group of people who are dedicated to the growth of the company and it has been fun, challenging, and engaging to be a part of the process.

As far as the website is concerned, the groundwork has been laid to do some very interesting things from a marketing, operations and customer service perspective.

Hopefully I will find more time to blog about the approach we took with this project and some of the solutions we came up with to address very unique challenges within their organization. I also benefited from the experience of some of my amazing contractors who were able to contribute to the project - everyone  from my project manager, designers, seo specialist, copywriter, .Net developer, and my CSS developer was extremely patient and helpful and professional. So many kudos go out to all of them.

Hope you enjoy the site! (www.fabutan.com)

CIFF 2008 is done, now get back to work…

October 1st, 2008

Well, the lights are down on the 9th annual Calgary International Film Festival. This is my fourth year being involved with CIFF, but the first time as an employee (albeit a temporary, contract employee). When I left Rare Method in August, the festival was the first organization to call and offer me some sort of paying employment. Being the a non-profit, I knew I wouldn’t be getting rich off this gig, but it would give me enough to pay the rent for September. Little did I know that a bunch of other work would follow through the door and I became suddenly swamped the last couple of weeks.

Don’t get me wrong - I don’t regret taking the job with the festival & can’t wait to be involved next year, but I’m looking forward to having some extra time to put in to my other projects and catch up a bit. First up are Urban Elements Development Corp., Fabutan and a little gig for Alberta Venture Magazine.

…and trying to set up my own site (expect this to be the last post for a while).

My first post.

So I’m setting this thing up & now one of ~120 million. I’ll be making changes over the next while and ultimately the site probably won’t be in a traditional blog format, but I need some content for now.
